The Club appreciates the efforts of the officials lead by Cy Knibb and the coordinating efforts of Dave Turner. Some of the athletes will be aware that the Avon Schools Sportshall Team Managers all supported both this and the Under-13 event in October namely Sue Jones, Dave Turner and me. We look forward to the Avon Schools Championships to be held at BGS on 1 February 2014 and then hopefully on to the Regional Championships at Torbay four weeks later.
I was delighted with the performances of the athletes present. They should congratulate themselves! I was of course disappointed with the number present (27 athletes). It could so easily have been better supported.
I have looked at the Avon Schools Under-15 Sportshall records which have been set at BGS over the last 19 years. Ada’ora Chigbo and Ella Falk were 1.2 and 1.0 seconds respectively inside the previous best known to me at BGS. Ada’ora was just 3 centimetres below the record for the shot putt, so it looks good for the Under-15 girls but we only had a glimpse from the boys. For the Regional Competition we do have to select 7 boys and girls so come February we do need better representation so spread the word.
I did create a problem for myself in processing the results. I have to apologise for making a mistake when we reached the team medals for the Under 14 girls. The delight of the Hayesfielders was great but can we treat them as the winning U14 team from BANES and Molly, Katie, Esther and Abi as the winning U14 team from North Somerset. I will forward a set of medals to remedy my omission on the day.
