Bristol and West Athletes continue to show good form in the Gloucester League. On an afternoon that can only be described as unpredictable the Bristol contingent continued to show that they can be a force in all local competitions.
The U13 Girls witnessed the season’s opener for Katie Jones who towed the line with the promising Nancy Dineen. Nancy under instructions to start a little more conservatively than Pontypool gradually made her way through the field towing Katie along a few strides behind. Both Girls did themselves proud by finishing 3rd and 5th respectively in a field of 60 finishers
The U17/20 race saw Jess Monk continue on her path to fitness with another solid run to finish 5th U17. Jess remarked that she was pleased with the support that she got when taking the stream with some ease.
There was a certain amount of familiarity about the scoring Ladies team as early on a confident Charlotte Green did what she does best, taking the field out at a decent pace whilst Clare Jolliffe led Sarah Everitt a little further back down the field. Charlotte eventually finished 5th overtaking 800m specialist Julia Cooke in the closing stages, Sarah cruised home in 16th (1st Vet 45) getting the better of Clare 18th (2nd Vet 45) in the last two miles.
The U20/Senior Women’s race was also bolstered with the inclusion of Maria Jones (6th U20) and Lisa Newing (29th) with both Ladies gaining from their experience with Lisa using her pace judgement to good advantage overhauling the fast starting Maria in the closing stages. It was clear to see that all eight athletes enjoyed their experience on the day.
