The second race of the 2013/2014 Pomphrey Sports 5k saw the head of the field dominated by runners from Bristol & West Athletic Club and Bristol University – although Bristol Uni student Callum Jones was running under the banner of his home club Cornwall AC. Callum won in 16:09 and was chased all the way by fellow Bristol Uni student James Thompson who was runner-up in 16:14. In third place Jarlath McKenna showed that his progress is continuing as he finished third in 16:23. Behind him Tom Morris made a welcome return to racing in 16:53. There was a good battle between V45 Mal White and V40 Andrew Malloy before the former prevailed by 2 seconds (17:21 to 17:23) – both are now regularly including interval sessions in their training and it shows.
Jessie Sanzo was a clear winner of the Ladies Race in 17:39 with Sophie Voller of Westbury Harriers runner-up (and first F35) in 18:24 with Vicky Tester in third place in 18:36.
Dave Bedwell won the V55 in 17:55 and race regular Arthur Daley took V60 honours in 19:23. Sarah Everitt was a clear winner in the F45 category with 19:21 finishing fortieth overall.
There were 99 finishers and please put Tuesday 26th November 2013 in your diaries for the third race in the series. Once again a big thank you to Chris Elson, Roger Brocklesby and the team without their support these popular races could not take place.
