On a cool, still night there were 79 starters and 78 finishers in the first Pomphrey Sports 5k of the winter. There is no series as such this winter as possible development on the course means that Chris Elson and his team cannot at this stage guarantee that all five races will take place.
First across the line was Will Christofi who will find it hard to compete once he is up at Oxford for three years but at least he left on a high note clocking 16.01. The runner-up was Torran Elson (I bet Dad was pleased) in 16.34 closely followed by Will Russell in 16.37 (a member of Chris Elson’s training group – so a great night for Chris). Jarlath McKenna made it a quartet from Bristol & West in the first four places as he finished fourth in 16.43. Next came Anthony Glover (16.53), David Hobbs (17.46) and Malcolm White (17.50) all of Westbury Harriers. David and Mal were first and second in the V45 category beating all the younger vets.
Dave Bedwell finished eleventh in 18.17 to take the honours in the V55 category with Peter Mountain (19.03) the runner-up in that particular age group.
Caitlin Lloyd recently returned to Bristol after time out of the city (and country) following her Masters in Law at the University a couple of years ago, now in Bristol & West rather than Bristol University colours she took the Ladies race in eighteenth place in 19.12. Runner-up was Carla Rees in 19.27 with Ellen Harrison (20.00) another Bristol & West runner with University connections in third place in the ladies’ race. Full results can be found at:
Our thanks to Chris Elson and his team for staging another successful race.
