parkrun – Saturday 21st September 2013

Ashton Court parkrun was cancelled on Saturday due to the Brisfest event taking place within the grounds. There were two local alternatives available for the dedicated parkrunner stay in Bristol and run at Little Stoke or take a short trip down the M4 to Swindon on the Ashton Court “works outing”.

There were a total of 239 runners at Little Stoke, a new attendance record and breaking the previous best of 196 set in August this year. Sixteen club members were there, five making their debuts. There was a total of eight PBs with Charlie Pantlin coming second overall.

A further seven members were at Swindon, where the total attendance was 350. Swindon is a flattish two lap course in the grounds of Lydiard House. The course is rather similar to Southwick Park and certainly offers the opportunity to improve on Ashton Court times. Parking is free with the café and start/finish areas all in close proximity to each other.

Finally, Angus Maclean was first finisher at Cardiff.

As usual the report was submitted by Roger Brocklesby and because there was no parkrun at Ashton Court Roger didn’t nominate a ‘Performance of the Week’ – I will therefore nominate one myself and it has to be Vanessa Redmond – even allowing for the fact that Little Stoke Park is an easier course than Ashton Court a PB by 2 minutes and 44 seconds is an amazing step forward for Vanessa – so well done. Also welcome back to Angus MacLean – shame he ran the Cardiff parkrun – had he run for the ‘A’ team in the Midland Road Relays we might have got gold medals!
