Club AThletes Fly the Flag at the Bristol Half-Marathon – Sunday 15th September 2013

15 Sep

There were an incredible number of PBs at the Bristol Half-Marathon held on Sunday 15th September 2013 and the ladies must have won their team race by a street with five finishers in the first twelve with Jenny JAGGER matching Keith Brackstone’s prediction of a time in the high 76s with a PB of 76:55 to reduce her best from 77:40. Next in was Annabel GRANGER in 78:08 just outside her lifetime best of 77:50 as she finished eighth. Lucy MACALISTER returned following the birth of her second child to record 78:25 for ninth. Although this time is well outside her PB of 73:41 it shows she is regaining fitness fast – what’s more she thoroughly enjoyed the experience so hopefully we will see more of her in club colours in the coming months. Next in was Helen SHARPE in tenth place in a PB of 78:33 (her previous best was 79:40) followed in twelfth place by Jessie SANZO in twelfth in 79:27 (again a PB).

The men, who were led home by Rob BUGDEN in ninth place in 68:33 will also be in the hunt for the team prize although Serpentine with eighth, fourteenth, fifteenth and fifty-ninth look to be slightly better placed than our ninth, twenty-fourth, twenty-eighth and forty-sixth – but apart from the fact that it is four to count I am unaware whether the team result is time or place based.

In the age groups the club experienced considerable success with Phil PARRY first man in the over-50s in 73:35 and Tracy ALLAN first lady over-50 (sorry Tracy) in 92:27 (Tracy was sixty-fifth overall in the Ladies Race), Sarah EVERITT (89:46) and Clare JOLIFFE  (90:20) were second and fourth in the W45 category and Gary JENNINGS (86:03) and Pete MOUNTAIN (86:15) were fourth and fifth in the M55 category. Currently identified club finishers (and there are 55 of them) are listed below.

It was also great to see a large number of club officials, athletes and mums and dads helping as volunteers making sure the event passed off as a huge success.
