Ashton Court parkrun – Saturday 17th August 2013

After a week’s absence it was a big turnout at Ashton Court. A total of 277 ran the parkrun (that’s the third best ever) and there were thirty-four from Bristol & West.

Colin Traer was Race Director, having recently joined the local committee, and he had to contend with the on-going celebrations for the wedding of Alan Wilcox and Sheila Hartnett, both of the Hogweed Trotters.

Consequently there  were lengthy preliminaries and adjustments of fancy dress which did not appear to affect the form of the four Bristol & West runners who achieved PBs. Jarlath McKenna was the first finisher again and improved his time by six seconds from his run two weeks ago. Gordon Everitt another recent ‘Performance of the Week’ winner knocked nine seconds off his PB and Vanessa Redmond continued her excellent improvement this summer since breaking the thirty minute mark. The Performance of the Week title is awarded to Helen Cooper, who has improved by nearly three minutes since making her Aston Court debut in May. Great to note two newcomers to the club – Simon Waters and Steve Swan finishing in fifth and eighth places respectively – and both running PBS – the club magic is working already.

Pete Mountain once again had the best Age Grading and broke the 80% mark this week. The club had two other Best Age Gradings with Phil Parry getting over 90% at Little Stoke and Emma Bowers showing the Aussies how it is done at Curl Curl.

The club had four first finishers this week; Jarlath McKenna and Phil Parry making it a local double for the men, and Helen Newberry and Emma Bowers achieving top spots for the ladies.

How about all four first finishers at Ashton Court and Little Stoke on the same Saturday?
