The fourth and final Midland Track and Field League Match was held at Gloucester on Saturday 10th August 2013. As usual Team Manager Roger Brocklesby had his work cut out with his Yate counter-part to try and cover as many events as possible. This situation was exacerbated by the fact that the South-West Championships in Exeter was to be held the following day.
The stand-out result from the club’s perspective was a massive PB from Julia BELYAVIN in the Women’s 3,000 metres where she went under 11 minutes for the first time when finishing second in the ‘A’ string in 10:46.6. Lizzie SMITH won the ‘B’ string in 11:05.3.
For the men Andrew DEAN-YOUNG ran 2:03.3 for fourth place in the ‘A’ string 800 metres and Jerry HOGAN was fifth in the ‘B’ string 1,500 metres in 4:50.2. Will RUSSELL ran 9:16.6 for fourth place in the ‘A’ string 3,000 metres. John BRIERLY clocked 18.6 to take second place in the ‘A’ string 110 metre hurdles and then 59.1 to win the ‘B’ string 400 metre hurdles. In the relays the composite team was third in the 4 x 100 metres and won the 4 x 400 metres.
In the field Rhys LLEWELLYN-EATON had a busy afternoon finishing sixth in the ‘B’ string long jump with 3 metres 57 centimetres, third in the ‘B’ string shot putt with a putt of 9 metres 15 centimetres, fourth in the ‘A’ string javelin with a throw of 43 metres 95 centimetres, second in the ‘B’ string discus with a throw of 26 metres 26 centimetres and second in the ‘A’ string pole vault with a clearance at 2 metres 90 centimetres. Six events – not a bad afternoons work! John BRIERLY followed up his track exploits by finished sixth in the high jump clearing 1 metre 40 centimetres, sixth in the ‘A’ string long jump with 4 metres 72 centimetres and
Fourth in the ‘B’ string triple jump with a jump of 10 metres 51 centimetres.
Caroline POWELL ran the 100, 200 and 400 metres clocking 14.8, 28.3 and 63.1 respectively. Her best position was fourth in the ‘B’ string 400 metres. Anna BURTON stepped down in distance to finish second in the ‘B’ string 800 metres in 2:32.5 and Sarah EVERITT also stepped down in distance to finish fourth in the ‘A’ string 1,500 metres in 5:05.9. Rebecca COURTENAY won the 100 metre hurdles ‘A’ string in 16.7 and then finished second in the ‘A’ string 400 metre hurdles in 71.4. The composite team finished sixrth in both relays.
Madison THOMAS won the ‘A’ string long jump with a jump of 5 metres 35 centimetres. Christina JONES added good points by winning the ‘A’ string shot putt with a putt of 11 metres 24 centimetres, and her speciality the hammer with a throw of 56 metres 66 centimetres. Rocio MOYA finished second in the ‘A’ string pole vault clearing 2 metres 50 centimetres, fifth in the ‘A’ string high jump clearing 1 metre 30 centimetres, third in the ‘B’ string javelin with a throw of 18 metres 60 centimetres.
Overall the team finished fourth in the match.
