Parkrun Report – Saturday 10th August 2013

There was no Parkrun at Ashton Court on Saturday due to the Balloon Fiesta taking over the place. It was therefore decided, as last year to run a trip to another Parkrun, in this case Newport. Thanks to Pete Mountain for doing the organising and admin role. There are already some great pictures on Facebook – what a cheery lot they look!

As an alternative Little Stoke was another parkrun in the Bristol locality. As it turned out sixteen runners headed off to Newport and the same number went to Little Stoke, where Chris Elson and Keith Brackstone were present encouraging and recruiting as is their want. At Little Stoke Park Matt Krelle took the race on for the first two of the three and a half laps before succumbing to Anthony Glover of Westbury Harriers and finishing second in 16:49. Jarlath McKenna took a different tactical approach moving through to third after a steady start, clocking 17:01 in the process.  James Smith was the first runner who trains at WISE with a course PB as he finished eighth in 18:18 for a 29 second PB – just in front of Dave Bedwell. Greg Chance made it five Bristol athletes in the top ten. First lady, Helen Newberry, is another club member to train at WISE on Wednesdays and she took 6 seconds off her PB as she clocked 19:12, thus lowering her PB by almost 50 seconds since she started training at WISE.

Your correspondent faced with the dilemma of Parkruns at two venues decided to head off to Gloucester for the Midland League match.

There was no Performance of the Week on offer. This is only awarded to those who run at Ashton Court. No prizes for being a flat track aficionado.

The influx from Bristol & West helped both courses to record attendances. There were 196 runners at Little Stoke, the previous best being 142. At Newport there were 378 runners, an increase of seventeen from 361.

As far as individual achievements are concerned, mention should be made of Pete Mountain and Dave Bedwell, who both had the top Age Grade rankings at Newport and Little Stoke respectively. Pete’s score was 80.66% and Dave got 86.89%.

Next week Ashton Court will be back on as usual.
