A rampant performance on the track and a solid performance in the field gave Bristol & West Athletic Club a sixty point winning margin in the final British Athletic League (BAL) match at home. A fourth consecutive victory in Division 3 in 2013 ensured us promotion to Division 2 next year, our second Divisional title in two years and the only BAL club out of 38 to remain unbeaten this season. This was our best team performance of the season in terms of the winning margin and the quality of our performances with 4 grade 1 performances, 1 grade 2 and 6 grade 3s. Outstanding individual and overall team success.
The final Division 3 standings are first – Bristol & West 32; second. – Kingston Athletic Club & Polytechnic Harriers 27; third-Nene Valley Harriers 25; fourth-Swansea Harriers 16; fifth.- Exeter Harriers 14; sixth Reading Athletic Club 13; seventh – Victoria Park & Tower Hamlets 12; eighth – Havering Mayesbrook Athletic Club 5.
Our track athletes scored a match-busting 226 points with Nene Valley second on 167. There were winning performances by Scott C Bajere (100 & 200 metres), Rich Peters (800 metres); David Bishop (800 metres); Omar Simpson (400 metres); Joe Thornton (400 metres); Steve Mitchell (1,500 metres); Dan Studley & Tom Merson (3,000 metres).
Our field athletes scored a very useful 136 points in second place behind Kingston‘s 149. There were podium performances from Adam Wall (HJ) & Luke Bailey (PV) and a steady build up of points from everybody else.
Finally Cy Knibb’s thanks go to all the officials and the management team who helped the meeting to run on time – despite the rain – and get out a full set of results before the visitors left.
Job done. Division 2 awaits us in 2014 when we expect a repeat performance. Hands up those who want to be a continuing part of our climb to the top of the British athletics clubs’ scene. We are now only eight matches away from the Premier Division. Have a good winter’s preparation for next season and Cy will keep everyone informed of any news along the way.
Well done guys!
