It wasn’t the easiest of weeks to assemble a team for the match at Stoke. There were the alternative televised sporting attractions; the German Grand Prix, the Tour de France and not to mention a tennis match between a Serb and a certain Scot. In addition the BAL and UKWAL teams had both travelled to difficult away matches on Saturday.
The statistics show that we finished fourth overall, which was an excellent performance under the circumstances. Well done to everyone who competed and congratulations to all who won their events. What the stats don’t show is the commitment shown by the athletes.
First of all a big thank you to James Preston and Jack Cullinan who competed on both days. Thanks also to those endurance athletes who doubled up at short notice. Clare Jolliffe and Sarah Everitt (who ran a PB of 11:00 to finish third in the 3,000 metres A race) were added to the 400 metres relay team and Carron Downer competed in both the 5,000 metres and the steeplechase. Thanks also to Pete Mountain who’s weekend was totally disrupted after a bit of gentle persuasion at the Ashton Court Parkrun on Saturday. The club provided four individual winners:
Christina Jones won the A Hammer with a throw of 56 metres 44 centimetres.
Alex Fields won the B 400 metres in 50.7.
Julia Belyavin won the ‘B’ 3,000 metres in 11:06.
Sam Moore won the B 100 metre hurdles in 18.5.
Once again we are indebted to our friends from Yate who made a major contribution to the result.
Thanks also to the officials who really put a shift in on a very hot day.

Oh, and by the way, Murray won.
