Club Defends Pomphrey Sports 5k Mob Match Title – Tuesday 25 June 2013

26 Jun

Last night’s Pomphrey Sports 5K incorporated the Avon Athletic Association 5K mob match. It was a very good night for the club with the A team winning by a distinct margin and the B team coming fourth only 11 points behind local rivals Westbury Harriers. Some 48 members turned out for the club, and the field was a sea of Bristol & West vests. Owain Jones led the field home in the fast time of 15.14, followed by Andy Cooke in fourth place, Tom Morris in fifth and Will Russell in sixth (“fresh” from his Sunday triathlon). The ladies race saw another remarkable performance from Jessie Sanzo (already ranked in the top 50 in the UK this season) with a winning time of 17.18, followed by Jenny Jagger, evidently recovered from the London Marathon, and Sophie Lovell – thus giving the club the first three female finishers. Bristol & West AC members also dominated the age groups with Gareth Cullen and Andy Malloy second and third M40, Jerry Hogan now recovered from injury first M50, Pete Mountain second M55, and Sarah Everitt and Clare Joliffe first and second in the W45 category. There were a whole raft of personal bests, including from memory Andy Cooke, Peter Gandon, Andy Malloy, Jessie Sanzo, Sarah Everitt and Clare Joliffe (both remarkable performances), Chris Harvey & Graham Grout. The ladies provided the bulk of the B team, led by Julia Belyavin who was second Senior Lady on the night. There was a notable cluster of PBs from Maggie Salter, Emma Withers, Kin Cheung and Rosey Mushens (now definitely club rather than recreational runners!) followed by another group of Emma Joliffe, Rubi Juan, Karen L Watson, Marie Lakin and Sue Campbell. If Chris has missed anybody out he apologises. Full race results are available at:
