Midland Track and Field Championships – Saturday 22 June 2013

Bristol & West speedster Scott BAJERE headed the list of Club Midland Champions by taking the 100 metres final in 10.86 on Day 1 of the Midland Championships at Alexander Stadium on Saturday 22nd June 2013. Gregg SMITH placed fifth in the final in 11.06. Elliott PRENDERGAST finished fifth in the Under-20 100 metres final in 11.44, having recorded 11.28 in an earlier round. Alyssa SMALL also finished fifth in the final of the under-20 Women’s race in 12.89 having recorded 12.7 in her heat which is just outside her PB of 12.62.

Alex FIELD ran fifth in his heat of the Senior Men’s 400 metres and his time of 50.67 was just outside his PB of 50.58. Caroline POWELL finished sixth in the final of the Senior Women’s 400 metres; clocking 62.63.

Georgie SALMON took bronze in the Senior Women’s 1,500 metres in 4:46.13 – setting a new PB as did Anna BURTON who was fifth in 4:41.99. In the Under-20 Women’s 1,500 metres Miranda SADLER won a very close finish from Georgie Hartigan of Coventry in 4:39.54.

In the field events Adam WALL was runner-up in the Senior Men’s High Jump clearing 2 metres just days after setting a new PB of 2 metres and 3 centimetres.

The number of entries was very disappointing for a Regional Championships but full marks to our athletes who attended and acquitted themselves well – you can only compete against those who turn up on the day.
