Open Meeting Results – Tuesday 18th June 2013

20 Jun

Bristol & West held its second Open Meeting of the summer at Kip Keino Athletic Stadium on Tuesday 18th June 2013. A big thank you to all the Officials and other volunteers without whose help we couldn’t stage these events – a particular thank you to the volunteers from outside the club.

There were some notable performances: In the High Jump Adam Wall cleared a PB of 2 metres and 3 centimetres (which lifts him to sixth equal on the UK under-20 list), Jessie Sanzo made her 5,000 metres debut on the track and recorded 17:29.7 in only her second ever track race to rank her just outside the top-50 in UK and Callum Court of Cardiff AAC cleared 4 metres in the Pole Vault for a ten centimetre PB.

Tia Jackson won the under-13 girls 100 metres  in 14.5 and the long jump with a jump of 4 metres and 5 centimetres. In the under-11 boys Alex Yfimcev won the 75 metres in 10.8 and the long jump with a jump of 3 metres 89 centimetres.

Hayley Pitman and Amelia Hempleman-Adams both cleared 1 metre 70 centimetres in the women’s high jump. Kurt Cameron was vaulting well, clearing 2 metres 70 centimetres – just 10 centimetres below his PB and Martin Davies had several of his group jumping with a close competition between Andrea Lock, Sam Moore, Rocio Pelaez and Ruby Juan.

It was nice to welcome a new lady thrower to the club, Gemma Tingay.  Gemma won the women’s shot with a putt of 11 metres 22 centimetres. Rownita Marston threw 10 metres and 5 centimetres and Sam Barrett and Nicola Fortune were also putting as part of their multi-event preparation.

Corey Haynes caught the eye winning the under-17 800 metres with a 61 first lap and a 2:07.8 clocking. In the senior men’s race Andrew Dean-Young set out will real intent and hung on to record 1:56.8 whilst the under-17s race for girls and ladies saw a very competitive race between Pat Gallagher’s Westbury/Yate athletes.

The good weather was a very pleasant change, especially after the last Open Meeting at Kip Keino Athletic Stadium.

Avon Athletic Association will host the final Open Meeting of the season at the track on Tuesday 16th July 2013 and we hope to see lots of you there.
