Club endurance athletes were very much in evidence as the senior men finished six in seven at the Clevedon 10k which, as is usual, included the County Championships. Owain Jones was over two minutes clear as he clocked 31:51 to win from Steve McGuigan returning to competition after a lay-off. Steve clocked 33:53 as he blew out the cob-webs. Andy Cooke made it a clean sweep as he finished third in 34:05. Tom Dukes of Wells City was third before Will Russell, Torran Elson and Matt Krelle filled the next three places for the club (although not necessarily in the order on the results (which I am told is based on chip times rather than their position over the finishing line).
Emma D’Alton of Westbury was a clear winner of the Women’s race finishing ninth overall and clocking 35:38. Helen Sharpe was first female club athlete in sixteenth place which gave her the runner-up slot in the Women’s race with a time of 36:38.
Special mention must be made of Sarah Everitt who followed up 3 PBs on the track in Leeds on Saturday with her first ever sub-40 clocking for 10k on the road as she finished fifth lady and first over-40 in 39:40.
There were 21 club finishers among the field of 379 that completed the course and full results can be found at http://www.clevedonac.co.uk/images/results/clevedon%2010k%20provisional%20results%202013.pdf.
