Midland Track and Field League – Birmingham – Sunday 9th June 2013

13 Jun

The Second Match of the Midland Track and Field League was held at Birmingham University on Sunday 9th June 2012. After a storming start at Yate Outdoor Sports Centre in the first match it was very much back down to earth at the second match. There were numerous gaps in the time – despite the composite team having the resources of two clubs to draw on – and our Team Manager (Roger Brocklesby) was relieved to be supported by several multi-eventers who had competed in the British Athletics League (Men) at Abingdon or UK Women’s Athletics League (Leeds) the day before.

Club winners were few and far between with only Christina JONES winning in the women’s events taking the A string hammer with a throw of 56 metres and 98 centimetres. In the Men’s events we had four individual winners: Will HARTLEY in the B 110 metres hurdles in 15.9, Joe THORNTON in the A 400 metres in 49.4, John Brierly in the A 400 hurdles in 58.00 and Paul WESTON in the B triple jump with a jump of 11 metres 96 centimetres. In addition the Men’s 4 x 400 metres relay quartet was winners in 3:22.1.

Other top 3 finishers were:

Alice GROSJEAN second A Discus 34 metres 18 centimetres

Alice GROSJEAN second A shot putt 10 metres 35 centimetres

Rocio MOYA second A pole vault 2 metres 40 centimetres

Sam MOORE second B pole vault 2 metres 10 centimetres

Georgie SALMON second A 1,500 metres 4:53.0

Caroline POWELL third A 400 metres 61.9

Alyssa SMALL third A 100 metres 12.7

Alyssa SMALL third A 200 metres 26.5

Will HARTLEY third B 800 metres 2:08.7

Will HARTLEY third A high jump 1 metre 75 centimetres

Rhys LLEWELLYN-EATON third A pole vault 2 metres 80 centimetres

Rhys LLEWELLYN-EATON third A javelin 46 metres 97 centimetres

Matt SPICER second A Hammer 46 metres 97 centimetres

A special mention must be made of Will HARTLEY who the day after multi-tasking at Abingdon in the BAL scored 17 individual points in 3 events at Birmingham. The top individual points scorer on the Women’s Team was Alyssa SMALL with 14 points for her two second places.
