UK Women’s League at Leeds – Saturday 8th June 2013

09 Jun

The club finished at worst fifth out of 8 teams. What we lacked in numbers was more than made up for in quality, commitment, incredible team spirit and sheer guts. Well done Team Captain Charlotte GREEN who led by example starting with a 400 metre hurdles and then finishing first the 2K chase with a 24 second PB (down from 7:47 to &;23), Christina JONES (1st Hammer (58 metres plus) and Shot), Catherine BEATTIE (56 metre hammer 1st B), Hayley PITMAN and Evie GROGAN (2nd A & 1st B High Jump) Olivia SADLER second 800 metres, 1st 3,000 metres),multi events from Aneta JACOBCZAK (100/ 200/ Long Jump and both relays), Rocio MOYA (pole vault, shot and discus), Ruby JUAN (pole vault, 100 metre hurdles and 1,500 metres! (Now that’s three events you don’t see together often!) Sam MOORE (100 metres, 100 metre hurdles and relay) and Roseanne MACKAY fitting a Long Jump in before a wedding, and how about a 16 second PB in the 3,000 metres for Sarah EVERITT at 45 (11:03) (age is no barrier). The event finale was a sterling 4 x 400 metres relay performance where the team just refused to give ground as Aneta (3rd), Olivia (3rd), Sarah (3rd) and Charlotte (3rd) all ran brilliantly but Charlotte’s last leg summed up the whole afternoon. Caught round the last bend by 3 pursuers she dug in and would not give ground holding off all-comers in the straight to record a 64.5 leg – and that in the event immediately after her steeplechase PB!  Thank you Mike, Carole, Martin & Keith for getting maximum officials points and Keith for taking the mini-bus. It’s the team spirit that makes my day. Well done again. Hope everyone will be up for next match at Exeter on Saturday 6th July 2013. Let’s get some more support for our intrepid Leeds Ladies and we could emulate the men by finishing at the top end of the Division.
