Club Youngsters in Youth Development League Action – Rugby – Sunday 2nd June 2013

06 Jun

Pride of place at the UK Youth Development League Midland Premier Match held at Rugby on Sunday 2nd June 2013 must go to the under-15 Boy’s Pole Vaulters and 1,500 metre runners. Kurt CAMERON and Jonny SHINE, who cleared 2 metres 80 centimetres and 2 metres 50 centimetres respectively (both Grade 4 performances), won the A and B string competitions in the under-15 Boy’s Pole Vault. There were excellent results in that age group too from Harry LEEMING who won the A 1,500 metres in 4:24.6 (a Grade 2 performance) and Kieron DUNKLEY who won the B 1,500 metres in 4:41.8 (a Grade 4 performance). Reuben WILMSHURST won the B 800 metres in 2:15.9 to make it 5 individual wins in the age group.

In the under-15 girls there were great performances from Kinnie SONGU and Ella FALK in the 100 metres: Kinnie recording 12.9 (Grade 2) for second in the A race and Ella 13.2 (Grade 3) to win the B string. In the 200 metres roles were reversed as Ella finished second in the A race (27.7) and Kinnie won the B race (28.0 (PB)) – both were Grade 4 performances. Sam BARRETT was fourth in a very competitive 75 metre hurdles in 12.2 – such was the standard in this event that her’s was a Grade 1 performance. Sam produced PBs in the High Jump and Long Jump too – just reward for all those hours at Whitehall. Performances in the under-15 Girl’s events were capped by a great 4 x 100 metre relay win for Sam BARRETT, Isabella PARSELLE, Ella FALK and Kinnie SONGU – well done to the four of you.

In the under-13 Boys Miles THOMAS ran 13.7 for second place in the B 100 metres and Oli HULBERT jumped 4 metres 15 centimetres for fifth place in the A Long Jump.

In the under-13 Girls Elena SIDMAN is a first year under-13 from Mendip and her win in the 1,200 metres puts her seventh on the national rankings. Elena also competed in the relay, hurdles and high jump. Katie JONES finished fourth in the A 800 metres in 2:40.6 (a Grade 4 performance) and also competed in the Javelin, where she produced another Grade 4 performance (16 metres15 centimetres), and the shot putt.

Katie JONES, Jess FRAZER and Oli HULBERT, who are all first years, achieved graded performances, which is a reflection that we fielded a young team which augurs well for next year.

Great to see a large number of athletes taking part in more than one event to score points for the team.
