Ashton Court Parkrun – Saturday 1st June 2013

Ashton Court Parkrun 1st June 2013

The two hundredth and twenty-ninth anniversary of the naval battle known as the Glorious First of June was celebrated by a record attendance of 304 at Ashton Court, of which 27 came from Bristol & West. This leaves the previous highest attendance well behind, so presumably 300 will now become the weekly target.

The attendance was probably enhanced by the concurrent Run Bristol event. However, the first Run Bristol event in June 2011 attracted 139 to the parkrun, so that is quite some progress.

Bristol and West runners were to the fore with Simon Smith and Scott Watkins seeing off all comers and taking the first two positions. Scott wins the Performance of the Week having achieved a PB. Other PBs were set by Vanessa Redmond and Rosey Mushens. Vanessa, having only recently broken through the 30 minute mark, clearly has her eyes set on 25 minutes.  Pete Mountain had the highest Age Grading in the field with 78.81%.

Finally congratulations to Paul Burgess who ran his fiftieth parkrun on Saturday. Colin Traer has now run ninety-nine, so presumably the century will be celebrated next week.
