Avon Open Meeting – Tuesday 14th May 2013 – Results

Thirteen club athletes braved the wet and windy conditions at the Kip Keino Athletic Stadium on Tuesday 14th May 2013 to compete in the second Open Meeting of the summer at the venue and the first of two events to be organised by Avon County Athletic Association. In all 75 athletes took part and regrettably several ‘races’ were no more than time trials. Once again the hurdles races produced little interest with a total of only 6 hurdlers competing across both genders and all age groups.

Jade Stallard ran 14.2 seconds in the under-15 75 metres hurdles and finished third in the under-15 200 metres in 30.9. Isobelle Harris ran 16.1 in the under-13 girl’s 100 metres for second place. Club Chairman Cy proudly watched grandson Nathaniel run 17.7 for the under-11 Boy’s 100 metres for second place. Matt Smith was third in the Junior Men’s 100 metres in 12.8 as UWE athletes took first and second. John Dyer took the Senior Men’s 100 metres in 12.6 before running a solo 25.7 in the 200 metres. Bruce DaSilveira was second in the under-13 boy’s 200 metres in 30.7. Another Knibb, this time Joseph, was second in the under-13 boy’s 600 metres in 2:21.05. Molly Jones took the girls event in 2:08.8. Isabella Parselle was fourth in the under-15 800 metres in 2:32.8. Robin Lane took the Senior Men’s 800 metres in 2:06.72 and Huw Jones ran a solo 3,000 metres in 10:13.5 to conclude the meeting and herald the end of the rain!

In the field Rownita Marston threw 9 metres 43 centimetres in the under-17 ladies’ shot putt. Jack Yeoman was pipped in the under-17 Men’s Javelin finishing second with a throw of 40 metres 75 centimetres and Ben Beasley threw 36 metres and 95 centimetres in the Senior Men’s Javelin.

There were more club officials than athletes at the meetings. I know the conditions were poor but we need to turn out more than 13 athletes if these events are to continue to be put on by the club and the county.

My thanks to all the club volunteers and officials who helped to stage the event in very trying conditions.

The next Open Meeting at Kip Keino Athletic Stadium will be hosted by the club and will take place on Tuesday 18th June 2013. Details of the programme, which includes high jump, can also be found at the link above.
