Club AGM – Friday 5th April 2013 – Brief Summary of Key Points

The Club’s AGM was held on Friday 5th April 2013. Turnout was decidedly thin with 15 members present but was up on 2012 which itself was up on 2011, so at least we are headed in the right direction. The Club Chairman reported that 2012 had been a year of success particularly at track and field and that 2013 would be a year of opportunity with the Women’s senior track and field team back in the UK Women’s League. The Men’s track team had been promoted to Division 3 of the British League and we had combined with Yate to compete as a composite team in the Midland League Division 2.  There were numerous individual and team successes that were covered in the Chairman’s Report and the Development Adviser’s Report.

The Membership Secretary was indisposed but sent a written report that included the fact that the club had 202 new members in 2011 and a further 247 in 2012. Overall the club now has 894 members of whom 540 are registered as competing members with England Athletics.

The Acting Treasurer Reported that the club’s funds had increased by £5,661.98 to £30,182.04 as at 31st December 2012 and this trend had already continued into the first quarter of 2013 showing that the club was being run on a firm financial footing.

Andrea Lock was present both as a club member and as Head of the Athletics Academy at Bristol Academy of Sports to outline the plans for expansion of Athletics at the Bristol Academy of Sports and how the club was working with the Academy.

Zoe Goodman had raised the question of Young Athlete Development   and voiced her views as to how this might be improved within the Club and the AGM agreed to set up a working group to take work forward in this area.

The development of young athletes and the election of Officers and Team Managers once again threw the need for additional volunteers into the spotlight and the recruitment of additional volunteers to help at all levels of the club’s activities will be an essential prerequisite to successfully meeting the opportunities of 2013.

The meeting concluded by endorsing the election of new Life and Honorary members and by awarding the Hugh Wilkins Trophy to the official who has given the most to the club over the previous 12 months to Violet Small.

Full minutes of the AGM will be produced and will be posted on the web-site.
