Club Parkrun Round-Up – Saturday 2nd March 2013

It was almost perfect conditions on Saturday 2nd March 2013 in what is now becoming a dust bowl at Ashton Court. The big difference from recent weeks was that the wind had virtually disappeared.

Numbers were down a little, with several regulars having volunteered to represent the club in the Gwent League fixture at Brecon. The familiar figure of Chris Elson clad in his red club jacket was missing, only to be replaced by Dave Taylor in similar garb. Dave was supporting club junior athlete Jessica Monk on her debut at Ashton Court. Jessica, the youngest female present, managed a very creditable 28th overall and was the 3rd female finisher.

Colin Traer still managed to plod round as tail runner and Pete Mountain marshalled before they both headed off to Brecon.

There were two PBs from Greg Chance and Stuart O’Connell. Greg gets the nod and is awarded Performance of the Week.

This week’s Parkrun coincided with the first RunBristol training event of the year, so it was free bananas and Jaffa Cakes once again. Pacers were on hand to guide the runners to pre-determined times e.g. 20 minutes, 25 minutes, 30 minutes etc.

Other highlights this week included Deborah Niccol, getting her third successive first female position at different East London events. She must be training to acquire “the Knowledge”. Where is it next week, Walford?

Finally congratulations to Andy Butterly on running his fiftieth parkrun and earning his red tee shirt.
