Bristol & West Athletes Compete in British Universities Cross-Country

05 Feb

Bristol & West and Bristol University Coach Keith Brackstone kept his eyes open at the recent British Universities and Colleges cross-country championships at Leeds this weekend looking for Bristol & West runners. He couldn’t miss Anna Burton who was in the colours of Bristol University finishing 67th in the Ladies Race in 29.14. Also in the Ladies Race was Billie Williams making a rare appearance on the country as she finished 376th for Southampton University. In the Men’s race John Wills was running for Leeds where he is studying medicine. John finished 48th cheered on by Mum-in-Law (and club member) Maureen Coffey and wife Charlie must surely have been around somewhere although she evaded your reporter. Next in was Adam Speake (running for Oxford University) – a great Fresher’s run – 73rd in 36.52. Behind him Oli Mott (who like John is more at home on the road) finished 87th in 37.19 for Cardiff Met where he is taking a year out from his life as a Doctor to do a one-year M.Sc. in Sports Medicine. Behind him Yani Berdeni (another with Bristol & West/Bristol University dual affiliation) found the hills, mud and distance very challenging as he finished 225th in 42.41. There were several other members of Chris Elson’s group (both male and female competing)
