The fourth race in the 2012/2013 Winter Series of the Pomphrey Sports 5k was held at the usual venue on Tuesday 29th January 2013. It might have been the wet, blustery evening or the after effects of a week of snow but a smaller than usual field of 98 finished the race. The home club was well represented providing the first three runners home as well as the first lady. Overall six of the first ten finishers were from Bristol & West AC. Peter Woodward was a clear winner in 16.58 with Race Director Chris Elson’s son Torran the runner up in 17.20. Matt Krelle showed that regular training at Whitehall and Coombe Dingle is paying dividends as he finished third in 17.30.
Jessie Sanzo was disappointed with her 18.16 clocking but the conditions were not conducive to fast times and on a better night she would surely have clocked sub-18. Jessie is now doing sessions with WISE Runners on a Wednesday night at Kip Keino Athletic Stadium and I am sure these will see her running sub-17.30 before too long. Michelle Kerfoot of Bitton Road Runners finished second lady and first L35 in 19.24.
Jacob Hayes of Bitton Road Runners took the M40 category in 18.04 and Dave Bedwell the M55 category in 18.40. Bristol University continue to support the event finishing 14 runners but numerically Bristol & West were best represented with 22 runners.
