Club athletes were active at a variety of other locations over the Christmas and New Year period. Pride of place must go to Dave Bishop for his win at the Ribble Valley 10k in 30.02 with Phil Wylie not too far behind in nineteenth place in 30.49. This race includes the Northern Championships and has a history of being competitive and producing fast times – clearly the 2012 running of the race was no different and this despite blustery conditions that probably saw times 20 to 30 seconds slower than might have been the case on a calm day.
In the Wheaton Aston Roman 10K, Camilla Briggs was first L35 with 39.33 in her first competition since the birth of her second child. Out on Exmoor Jenny Jagger was the first lady home in a multi-terrain race; further details will be added when known. The same applies to Phil Parry who ran a 27 minute 5 miler in the Severn AC Pilot Inn 5 miles on New Year’s Day.
Meanwhile at Nos Galan on New Year’s Eve Richard Peters finished fourth in 14.48, Adam Kula-Prezezwanski (still waiting for clearance before he can represent the club) was twenty-first in 16.33 and Steph Barnes finished twenty-ninth and second lady in 17.35. Welsh Competition Manager James Thie’s training group were there in strength and Rich Peters was the only non-group member in the first five in the men’s race.
