Richard Peters (19.06) and Tom Merson (19.29) led the charge of Bristol & West athletes as they finished second and third in the Clevedon Boxing Day 4 mile road race. However, neither could match Jean-Pierre Weerts who was in Clevedon for Christmas with girlfriend (and Bristol & West club member) Steph Barnes. J-P’s winning time was 18.58.Andy Chambers (20.27) finished seventh and Mick O’Doherty (21.45) finished tenth male finisher. Just behind Mick club newcomer Adam Kula-Przezwanski didn’t evade the cameras but seems to have evaded the chip timing somehow – we wait to see him added to the results in twelfth overall (hopefully in 21.46). Next male home for the club was Dan Noad twenty-fourth in 23.13.
Mick was just beaten by Emma Pallant – a regular visitor to the race – who ran 21.44 to finish 40 seconds clear of Rebekah Randell whose 22.24 saw her finish in fourteenth place as second lady. Clevedon resident (when she isn’t in Belgium) Steph Barnes showed she is on the road back to her former fitness finishing third in 23.13. Seventeen year-old Laura Gent finished fourth in 23.58 and Olivia Sadler (24.35) – back from Columbia University for Christmas – was fifth. Evergreen Viv McConnell was seventh in the ladies race in 24.41 and easily won her age category. Kim Whitlock finished sixteenth lady in 26.26. Miranda Sadler finished 146th in 27.56 for third under-17.
There were 649 finishers in this popular event.
