Ashton Court Parkrun – Saturday15th December 2012

The number of runners at Ashton Court seems to have settled down at just over the 100 mark during December. This is probably due to the weather and/or the alternative attraction of the Little Stoke parkrun. It is, however, pleasing to report that the Bristol and West numbers are holding up well with seventeen runners and more importantly four volunteers this week.

Paul Jefferson achieved a PB for the first time since April and Rich Kennington, obviously starting to get the hang of the Ashton Court course, knocked 95 seconds off his previous best. This earns him the highly prized accolade of Performance of the Week. No tie break was possible this week as both were wearing club vests.

Congratulations are also due to Margaret Salter who was awarded the Parkrun Sweatshop prize for November (apparently the eighth member of Whitehall Runners to achieve the accolade).

As it was the Whitehall Christmas function on Saturday, this is a good opportunity to give a quick resume of the Performances of the Week since their introduction in June.

There have been 25 awards, of which four runners have won twice: Sue Campbell, Bev Campbell, Karen Watson and Abbie Salter. One runner has won three times Alison Engledew. [Questions have been raised about the number of ladies who win Roger’s Performance of the Week Award – I leave our discerning readers to ponder that question and reach their own conclusions. Roger’s answer is that the ladies out-perform the men!]

As a foot note fourteen dedicated runners were at Ashton Court for the regular Sunday morning run having attended the Christmas meal the previous evening.

That must be worth an extra 20 seconds each for this Monday’s handicap, Keith?
