Ashton Court Parkrun 3rd November 2012 or should it be ‘The Tale of Two Parkruns’

On stepping outside on Saturday morning it was definitely a case of “let’s get this over as quickly as possible”.

There was a definite nip in the air, a brisk westerly wind, ominous dark clouds, and it had already started to rain…………………..and there was also a choice.

Does your correspondent head off to Ashton Court to have another bash at the hill, face the head wind on the plateau and get a soaking in the process? The alternative is the inaugural Little Stoke parkrun where the most daunting topography is a few mole hills and there is also a sub-tropical micro-climate. There will also be the opportunity to mix with all the movers and shakers and no doubt there will be numerous photo opportunities. Free beer and a fried breakfast were also mentioned.

No contest; it was off to Ashton Court.

Fortunately the weather improved and the run was actually held in bright sunshine. Nineteen Bristol and West parkrunners resisted the lure of Little Stoke. However nobody managed a PB. Closest was Alison Engledew who was one second out. Therefore Alison wins the Performance of the Week.

Among the flat trackers at Little Stoke, Elyas Haji was second overall and Mark Edwards, Sarah Everitt, Emma Bowers, and Sian Davies were first in their age categories, Sarah and Emma following similar results in the Pomphrey Sports on Tuesday.

Thanks are also due to the three volunteers at Ashton Court

Finally, all parkrunners are encouraged to wear their club vests. On looking through the Little Stoke photographs, there wasn’t one to be seen. The usual suspects were clearly identifiable in white and red at Ashton Court. Be warned, the wearing of club kit may influence the award of future Performances of the Week.
