Several regulars were missing for Saturday’s parkrun; no doubt under strict instructions from Chris Elson to take it easy before the first Gwent League cross country fixture on Sunday. Despite this there were 23 runners taking part. Rather like the England football team there appeared to be some confusion as to when to take the caffeine or the sleeping tablets, with some mixed results being returned. Notwithstanding that five runners did achieve PBs. Tom Burgess continued his recent good form with a third successive PB. Alison Engledew, obviously suffering no ill effects from last Sunday’s Mendip Muddle managed a two second improvement. Abbie Salter and Graham Grout also improved on their previous bests.
This week’s Performance of the Week title goes to Darren Overend. He has achieved two successive PBs at Ashton Court. However his last run was on 19th November 2011; so that’s over eleven months ago. So this was Darren’s comeback run after a lengthy and frustrating injury. Darren has only returned to training at the Whitehall Monday night sessions in the last month, so this result was highly creditable.

Alison Engledew has booked ‘Salvatore’s Kitchen’ on Cheltenham Road (formerly ‘Amici’) for Saturday 15th December 2012 for the Christmas meal. Their 3 course Christmas menu has a traditional/Italian flavour and costs £24.95 a head, and offers four choices per course.

Although a deposit of £10 each isn’t required till the end of November, it would be helpful if we could give them a close estimate of numbers in the next couple of weeks. Therefore if you wish to attend, please email Alison at a.engledew@blueyonder.co.uk
