Club Road and Cross-Country Championship – New for 2013

In 2013, a Club Road and Cross-Country Championship will be held. The championship will mainly comprise road running events but does also include two cross-country events. The championship will consist of ten events of which members must complete at least six to be considered in the final championship standings. Members who complete more than six events will have their six best results included in the championship.

Events

The championship is made up of ten events which are listed below. The ten events consist of eight individual races and a further two ‘year-round challenges’. The year-round challenges are races that are run over the same course regularly throughout the year. I will keep a league table of all of the fastest B&W times over the courses during the year. At the end of the year, the league table will be scored in the same way as for a single event (see ‘Scoring’ below).

The 2013 championship will be made up of the following events:

 May – Bristol 10k

 June – Pomphrey Sports 5k Avon AA Mob Match

 June – Clevedon 10k (also Avon AA 10k Championships)

 July – Towpath 10k Avon AA Mob Match

 September – Oldbury 10 mile (also Avon AA 10 mile Championships)

 September – Bristol Half Marathon

 December – Gwent league Cross Country at Blaise Estate

 December – Tri-County Cross Country Championships

Year-round events:

 Fastest time over the Ashton Court parkrun course over the calendar year.

 Fastest time over the Pomphrey Sports 5k course over the calendar year.

Scoring

The championship consists of ten events of which members must complete at least six to be considered in the championships standings. Members who complete more than six events will have their six best results included in the championship.

Points will be allocated depending on position when considering only B&W finishers (for example if you are 10th overall in the race but you are the first B&W finisher, then you are position 1).

The first 50 B&W finishers score points which should cover even the biggest events. A full break down of the points per position is included in the Guide in downloads. First place gets 100 points, so the maximum number of points in the championship is 600. The most number of points wins the championship.

The club is grateful to Easy Runner for kindly agreeing to sponsor prizes for the event and to Peter Woodward and Chris Elson for their work in setting the whole thing up.
