Life can be cruel sometimes and it was for the Bristol & West AC Midland League T&F team on Saturday 4th August 2012 at Nottingham. The club finished fifth on the day. The result means the final league standing on match points were that we tied with Wolverhampton & Bilston and Gloucester & Severn on 12 match points. Unfortunately, on event points we had less than both the other clubs finishing fifth overall and being relegated. Now here’s the cruel bit. If we had achieved 21 more match points we would have finished 2nd!!! Chris Elson’s prediction that it would be a tight competition was only too correct.
The men produced a quality result beating all the other clubs bar Nottingham. Scott Bajere took both sprints in majestic fashion and James Preston came home again with a bag of points. Only nine ladies were present on the day, and they all worked their hearts outs with Andrea Lock, as ever appearing it seemed in every event, and Debbie Nicholl making the long trip from London to win the 1,500 metres and take second in the 800 metres. Aneta Jakóbczak was our female star perfomer breaking the league record in the 400 metres hurdles.
