Head Young Athlete Coach Dean Garrett was the chief organiser of a Medal Competition for junior school athletes at Whitehall on Saturday 14th July 2012. The event was well supported with competitors from Bristol & West, North Somerset Athletic Club, Forest of Dean Athletic Club, Yate & District Athletic Club and Hanham Abbots Primary School . Bristol & West topped the medal table narrowly with 9 golds and 22 medals from North Somerset who won 7 golds and 21 medals.
Charlotte Roberts was a triple gold medalist taking the long jump with 3 metres 95 centimetres, the standing triple jump with 5 metres 96 centimetres and the chest push with 6 metres 50 centimetres.
Tia Jackson won the 75 metres in 11 seconds dead. Natasha Wraith won the vortex throw with 32 metres 10 centimetres and also took bronze in the girl’s chest push with 6 metres exactly. The girls rounded off their winning ways taking the girl’s relay.
On the boy’s side Tom Jones was our sole individual gold medal winner as he took the chest push and vortex throw competitions. His winning distances were 7 metres 50 centimetres in the chest push and 40 metres 50 centimetres in the vortex throw. For good measure he also won silver in the Boy’s Hammer with a throw of 31 metres 75 centimetres and in the standing triple jump with a jump of 5 metres 66 centimetres.
In the boy’s relay the club took gold and bronze – the two teams being split by the team from North Somerset Athletic Club.
