Another reminder that Town of Runners, a feature documentary about the fortunes of young athletes from the Ethiopian rural town of Bekoji, home to the Olympic and World champions Tirunesh Dibaba and Kenenisa Bekele will be shown in Bristol on Saturday 14th July 2012. The town is also known to produce the largest number of long-distance runners (although Iten/Eldoret in Kenya might well dispute that claim). The film follows two teenage girls keen to follow in their heroes’ footsteps and move from school track to national competition. Their mentor, Coach Sentayehu Eshetu, a former PE teacher, has discovered and trained many of the world’s leading long distance runners including Dibaba, Bekele and Derartu Tulu, the first African woman to win an Olympic gold.
Town of Runners (PG) plus a question & answer session with the Director is at the Watershed Bristol on Saturday 14 July 2012 at 3pm
