Ashton Court Parkrun – Saturday 7th July 2012

Bristol City Council should be commended on their new scheme to introduce parking charges at Ashton Court. This should encourage dedicated Parkrunners to leave their vehicles at the bottom of the hill and jog up to the venue to get a proper warm up before the start. Such an initiative by the Council to reduce injury and aid performance is only to be applauded. This may have contributed to the results for Bristol and West runners showing a marked improvement, statistically, from last week; with Alison Engledew, Matt McKenny, Andrew Malloy and Bev Campbell all recording PBs. The tie break rule introduced last week kicks in again, so Alison Engledew wins the Performance of the Week accolade having worn a club vest. Chris Elson and Keith Brackstone are about to give up coaching and will work as Council parking charge consultants in an effort to improve club endurance performances by this obviously impressive new addition to any self-respecting coaches armoury.

Tracy Allen achieved the top age grading of 76.21% at Ashton Court today and Elyas Haji, Emily Ciscato and Steven Emery were this week’s “first timers”. Congratulations to Emma Withers on being selected by the local organising committee as their prize winner for the month for June. Emma has won a pair of running shoes donated by Sweatshop. This is in recognition of her contribution both as a runner and a volunteer. Emma officiated on the barcode scanner this week, wisely deciding not to ruin the pristine appearance of her new shoes on their first outing.

Please email roger.brocklesby@btopenworld.com if you run at another parkrun, your result will then be included in the club’s weekly Parkrun report. Finally, a reminder that there will be trips to Southwick Country Park (Trowbridge) on 11th August 2012 and probably to the Forest of Dean on 22nd September 2012 due to the Ashton Court event being cancelled on both these dates.
