Ashton Court Parkrun – Saturday 23rd June 2012

Your correspondent has been assured that the rumours of unidentified Parkrunners being spotted in the vicinity of the RSPCA premises in Albert Road looking for a running partner to pull them along are scurrilous and totally unfounded.

At the Parkrun, the gusty winds still remained, but this time with some welcome sunshine, before back to rain later in the day. “The sun only shines on the righteous”.

Twenty one Bristol & West Parkrunners returned times.

Having checked out the opposition, Robin Dallman decided it was safe to run and returned to winning ways this week. His usual rival, Tom Morris, was absent again, so Robin coasted to a fairly facile victory. This was made even easier after the early pace maker from BAD Tri retired before halfway.

The number of PBs increased this week, with several notable performances. Sarah Everitt got yet another best time. Also up there were Andrew Malloy and Bev Campbell who both bettered PBs set earlier in the month; and Greg Chance breaking his previous best set last year. Emma Withers equalled her PB set in February this year.

However, the performance of the week was that of Vanessa Redmond with a 34 second improvement. She should certainly break the 30 minute barrier before too long.

In the WAVA age grade rankings Pete Mountain and Sarah Everitt lead the way with 77.87% and 77.35% respectively. Robin Dallman and Sarah Everitt head the 2012/13 points table.

Margaret Salter and Tracy Allen volunteered for the technical jobs this week and Carron Downer carried out the “David Bailey” role.

Finally, a horse and rider turned up in the court yard when everyone was having a well-earned post-race coffee. Was this a recce for next week? Even Lord Coe couldn’t have beaten this pair.
