Tom Morris and Robin Dallman, who have dominated the Ashton Court parkrun for the last six weeks both decided to give Saturday’s run a miss. From your correspondent’s position, as he plodded up to half way, it appeared that their successor as this week’s winner was being dragged along by a couple of dogs (brown ones for those who have an interest in matters canine). Is this the Parkrun version of artificial substances? Well, there was no steward’s enquiry and there’s nothing in the rule book.
Anyway back to those who did turn up. Conditions were very windy for the third week running, added to which the course was still wet from recent heavy rain. As a result, PBs were well down on normal Charlotte Green and Bev Campbell were the only club members to achieve that target.
There was no club runner winning the ladies race, but Charlotte Green, Sarah Everitt and Aoife Nicholls were second, third and fourth respectively. Bristol and West’s leading male competitor was Pete Mountain in fifth place.
Many of those present have had a busy week, with parkrunners having competed in one or more of the Clevedon 10k on Tuesday, the Purdown Pursuit on Thursday and the Towpath 10k on Friday.
Gary Jennings has no intention of taking it easy now that he is 55. He ran the Clevedon race on his birthday and followed this up with a waterlogged Towpath on Friday and the Parkrun on Saturday.
There were Ashton Court debuts today from newly joined club member Aoife Nicholls and Jay Lippman.

Bristol and West runners are regularly competing at other Parkruns at various locations. Please let us know if you are running at some other exotic location. This week we spotted that Colin Traer achieved a time of 19:38 at the Havant Parkrun. A statistic that was overlooked in previous reports was that Colin is the first Bristol and West runner to achieve 50 Parkruns, a feat that will be rewarded with a tee shirt. Colin has become something of a Parkrun tourist. He completed his 49th and 50th runs at Andover and Newbury respectively, both on 5th June, at the Diamond Jubilee Bank Holiday double header.
Congratulations are also due to Debbie Riddiford who won the Ashton Court ‘Parkrunner of the Month’ award for May.
Julia Belyavin was a volunteer at Ashton Court this week.
