The results of the Club athletes who competed in the Avon League on Sunday 10th June 2012 are now available at:
Kurt Cameron had a good day finishing first in the under-13 Boy’s High Jump with a 1 metre 41 centimetre clearance and second in the javelin with 29 metres 34 centimetres. Oli Hulbert recorded 42 metres 60 centimetres to win the under-11 ball throw and also helped the under-11 Boys to a 4 x 100 metre relay win. Tomas Goodman won the under-15 Boys 400 metres in 55 seconds and Oli Mott won the Senior Men’s 1,500 metres in 4:04.5, while John Brierly won the senior men’s 400 metres in 51.1 seconds and James Trezona won the 400 metre hurdles in 69.9 despite hitting a barrier hard and taking a heavy fall. In the field Matt Spicer won the Senior Hammer with 45 metres 20 centimetres.
Natasha Wraith took the under-11 Ball Throw with 33 metres 66 centimetres and Tia Jackson did a 75 metre/long jump double (11.0 seconds and 3 metres 71 centimetres) and then helped the under-11 girls team win the 4 x 100 metres relay. In the under-13 girls Isabelle Parselle did the sprint double (13.6/28.8) and the under-13 girls won the 4 x 100 metres relay without Isabelle in the team! In the field Catherine Clayton won the under-13 girls discus with 21 metres 47 centimetres and was second in the shot putt with 6 metres 66 centimetres – a competition won by Hannah Searle with 7 metres 13 centimetres. In the under-15 girls our sole victory was in the 4 x 100 metre relay where the club team maintained an excellent afternoon with the baton – which continued with wins in the Under-17 Ladies 4 x 100 metres and Senior Ladies 4 x 400 metre relays. Whilst the under-17 team was made of sprinters the Senior women’s team showed that there is a true club spirit returning to the club as Georgie Salmon, Clare Jolliffe, Charlotte Green and Sarah Everitt won with Georgie – an 800 metre specialist – being the closest to a sprinter and Clare and Sarah having won National bronze medals in the age 45 category at the Masters Road Relays (obviously doing some speed work for coaches Dave Taylor and Chris Elson respectively). Madison Thomas won the long jump with a jump of 4 metres 88 centimetres in her first competition in a club vest and also took second place in the under-17 shot putt with 8 metres 82 centimetres. Finally, Karen Clayton won the Senior Discus with a throw of 18 metres and 37 centimetres.
There was a better club representation than in the first match of the league season and it would be great to field an even stronger team in the third match on Sunday 8th July 2012 – again at Yate.
As ever thanks to the team managers and various volunteers who turned up to support our athletes – I am certain that this league could not function without the volunteers from Bristol & West (and Yate & District).
