The Whitehall Runners’ first excursion onto the international scene took place on Saturday 12 May 2012 when 14 members and friends assembled on the Downs on the best morning weather wise for about six weeks. Meeting up with various people en route, and with other B&W runners also attending, the club must have had around 20 people running the Cardiff Parkrun helping them to achieve a new record attendance for the event of 357.
Cardiff was selected for the trip because it is a flat fast course, hopefully assisting the group to achieve personal best times and get the opportunity to check out a different course.
Cardiff is an out and back course running from close to the A48(M) alongside the River Taff, into Bute Park, with a loop around there, then back to the start
Generally the improvement was in the region of 4-5% off Ashton Court PBs with Rikki Porter and Pete Mountain improving by almost 7%.
Performances of note were Jenny Jagger and Charlotte Green being the 1st and 2nd Ladies and also Denica and Nikki Arthur making their parkrun debuts. Four B&W runners were in the first twenty.
It is hoped to have another away day, probably in August, when the Ashton Court event will clash with the balloon festival.
