The BMC meeting at Millfield lived up to its reputation, despite the unfavourable weather, as 19 club athletes went looking for early season middle distance races and 11 came away with PBs. Each of the club’s junior middle distance athlete coaches (Alison Hurford, Dave Bedwell and Dave Taylor) saw at least one of their athletes record a PB but Dave Taylor must have been especially pleased as Victoria Kenny reduced her 3,000 metre PB from 10:50 to 9:58.31. A further five athletes from Dave’s group Eloise Browne, Elena Evans, Joanna Taylor, Jess Monk and Miranda Sadler all ran personal bests. Charlie MacLean (Coach Tom Watson) took his 3k time down to 8:22:98 as he finished third behind Tom and Ander Russell. The pair showed the meaning of sibling rivalry as elder brother Tom (Bristol & West) maintained bragging rights by the narrowest of margins as younger brother Ander made him work all the way to the line. Adam Speake closed in on 2 minutes and it must be only a matter of time before he breaks that barrier. Billy Cochrane and Hugh Sadler from Ali’s group both recorded PBs with Anton Mills only just outside his lifetime best.
