There was a 1-2-3 for Bristol & West AC in the first race of the Bridge Inn 2012 Summer Series at Shortwood on Tuesday 24th April 2012 as 118 finishers crossed the line. Shaun Antell made the long trip up from Devon worthwhile winning in 15:24. Runner-up was Bridge Inn regular Steve Francis showing that he is returning to the sort of form that saw him run sub-15 over the course back in 2011 as he clocked 15:35 with youngster Luke Grenfell-Shaw third in 15:39. Close behind Luke was Mark Morgan of Swansea in 15:40 and under-17 Miles Burton of Team Bath in 15:41.
Another visitor from Swansea Nicola Knapp won the Women’s race in 17:40 finishing 22nd overall. Second lady home was Ellen Harrison of Bristol & West/Bristol University in 18:46 just in front of Katie Beecher from Les Croupiers in 18.54.
On the masters front Phil Parry (M45) was first master home in sixth place overall in 15:52 with Stefan Simms (M40) from Fairwater Runners second master (15th overall) in 16:38 with Mike Jacobs (M45) completing the masters podium places in 17th place in 16:54.
Amongst the ladies over the age of 35 first home was Helen Hinsley (F45) of Bitton Road Runners in 19:57 closely followed by Clare Jolliffe (F45) from Bristol & West in 20:13 and then Louise Cronin of Great Western Runners (F35) in 20:42.
As ever Race Director Chris Elson had a number from his training group running with Colin Traer the first of these in 18:28 in 36th place. Next up was M50 Peter Mountain, 38th in 18:34. Greg Chance was 41st in 18:52 and under-17 Dan Binns was 55th in 19:39. Carron Downer (M55) finished 67th in 20:28 and Paul Noyce 74th in 20:55. Diana Kennedy was one place behind in 21:05 and Rebecca Colquhoun was 90th in 22:46. Matt McKenny was 101st in 24:14 and Emma Withers was 106th in 25:04. Last man home from the Whitehall Contingent was Andrew Butterly clocking 27:55 in 117th place.
