What a difference a week makes. The sunshine of the first Club Development Meeting on Wednesday 28th March 2012 was replaced by a biting wind and torrential rain a week later on Wednesday 4th April 2012. Our intrepid band of officials carried on but athlete numbers were far fewer, whether that was due to the conditions or Easter holidays is a matter for speculation.
First off were the under-11 75 metre races Charlotte Roberts won the girls’ event in 11.6 from Jessica and Abigail White. Tia Jackson equalled Charlotte’s time in a later race having missed the initial girl’s race. Oli Hulbert won the boy’s race in 11.3.
In the girls under-13 100 metres Isabella Parselle (14.3) beat Millie Weeks (14.4) and Hannah Dyer (also 14.4) in a closely fought race. Isabella then completed the double taking the 150 metres in 21.5 from Nicola Fortune (23.0). Hannah Stone (15.3), Isobel Harris (15.4) and Tia Jackson (15.4) ran an equally close fought 100 metres for under-13 girls.
In the over-13 age group under-17 Alex Alden (13.1) got the better of under-15 Pippa Reilly from North Somerset.
In the 200 metres for under-17 girls Yemma Songu (26.9) just held off Alex Alden (27.0) but had to give way to Maria Jones (45.1) in the under-17/under-15 300 metres as Yemma clocked 45.7.
Tomas Goodman was a clear winner of the under-15 boy’s 100 metres in 12.2, while under-20 Joel Henderson (11.6) got the better of under-17 Jack Dyer (12.0) in the boys/men’s race.
Alex Dailey (56.1) and Mitch Hill (56.5) made light of the wet conditions in the Men’s under-17 400 metres.
Alex Hayhurst was the sole competitor in the under-13 girls 1,200 metres coming home in 4:24.1 (with some help from Matt Deacon as pacemaker).
In the 1,500 metres an early fast start saw Rose Evan-Baker in front but under-15 Jo Taylor was the eventual winner in 5:14.4 with under-13 Eloise Browne second in 5:37.8.
In the field Oli Hulbert threw the vortex 27 metres 37 centimetres in the under-11 boys event while Natasha Wraith was only just short of Oli’s throw winning the under-11 girls event with 26 metres 66 centimetres.
Five athletes threw the javelin with Kurt Cameron achieving 28 metres 24 centimetres in the under-13 boy’s event. Hannah Stone threw 8 metres 77 centimetres as the only under-13 girl thrower. Mia Mok-Hartley threw 12 metres 73 centimetres in the under-15 girl’s event. Alex Daley threw 21 metres 28 centimetres to take the under-17 men’s event.
In the long jump pit Oli Hulbert (under-11) jumped 3 metres 66 centimetres and Kurt Cameron (under-13) jumped 3 metres 98 centimetres. Millie Weeks (under-13) jumped 3 metres 78 centimetres and Mia Mok-Hartley jumped 4.19 in the under-15 girl’s competition.
Charlotte Roberts cleared 1 metre and 5 centimetres to take the under-11 girl’s high jump.
