The Club’s first development meeting of 2012 was held on Wednesday 28th March 2012 and the bright sunshine ensured a good turnout and some fast sprinting for this early in the season. There were several new young athletes trying out the sport for the first time but the majority were youngsters returning after a winter’s training. Tia Jackson (10.9) and Charlotte Roberts (11.1) caught the eye in the under-11 gitls 75 metres as both went under the existing club record of 11.2. Isabella Parselle clocked 10.8 in the under-13 girls race. In the 100 metres for girls Ella Falk won the under-14 race in 13.5 shading Kinnie Songu by one-tenth of a second and Emily Wright (Yate) clocked an impressive 12.6 winning the under-15 race. Yemma Songu clocked 12.8 in the same race as first under-17.
In the Boy’s sprints Oliver Hulbert won the under-11 75 metres in 11.8 with Donte Edmodson taking the under-13 100 metres in 13.9. Tomas Goodman clocked 12.0 to take the under-15 100 metres. In the under-17 race Mitch Hill clocked 11.9 but was shaded by under-20 Damien Keen in the same time.
Katie Jones won the under-11 600 metres in 2:04.8, which was quicker than Oliver Hulbert’s winning time of 2:06.2 in the under-11 equivalent for Boys. The 800 metres were run as two races with all age groups in together and under-17 Jo Taylor woin the girls/ladies race in 2:30.0 with under-15 Corey Haynes winning the boy’s/men’s race in 2:20.1.
Tia Jackson completed a double winning the under-11 long jump with 3 metres 32 centimetres with Katie Jones (3.26) and Charlotte Roberts (3.20) also posting good jumps. In the under-13 girls long jump Amelia Davies (3.78) and Millie Weeks (3.70) were well clear of the field. Pippa Reilly of North Somerset took the under-15 girl’s long jump with a leap of 4 metres 26 centimetres.
Oliver Hulbert was a clear winner of the Boy’s under-11 long jump with 3 metres 66 centimetres, while Curt Cameron took the under-13 with 4 metres 67 centimetres.
In the high jump Tia made it three out of three – her winning clearance coming at 1 metre 15 centimetres. Nancy Dineen took the under-13 girl’s high jump with a clearance of 1 metre 5 centimetres and Mia Mok-Hartley won the under-15 girl’s high jump clearing 1 metre 35 centimetres. In the Boy’s high jump Alfie Hargreaves cleared 1 metre (as the girls again out performed the boys). Anton Mills took the under-13 Boy’s high jump wiuth a 1 metre 32 centimetre clearance and Lucas Regazzo was a clear winner of the under-15 Boy’s event clearing 1 metre 60 centimetres.
Several young athletes gave the throws a try with Curt Cameron throwing the discus 17 metres 63 centimetres aand Catherine Clayton 19 metres 65 centimetres in the under-13 age group. Gary Barrett threw 29 metres 70 centimetres in the Senior Men’s category and Julia Walkden (from Exeter) 40 metre 10 centimetres) in the Senior Ladies age group. The outstanding performance in the shot putt was 11 metres 33 centimetres by George Giles of South Gloucestershire and Stroud College.
