Results of the British Masters’ Cross-Country – 25th March 2012

26 Mar

A sunny Bath University played host to the British Masters (Veterans) Championships on Sunday 25th March 2012. The first of the two races was the Ladies’ Race and it was disappointing that despite the race’s proximity to Bristol none of the winning W35 team from last year ran. Indeed with only Clare Stevinson (13th in 21:27) and Emma Bowers (46th in 23:33) the club failed to close in a scoring W35 team. Clare, by her own admission, didn’t really get into racing mode once she discovered there was no team. In the W45 category the club fared better with Clare Jolliffe (44th in 23:30) leading the club trio home followed closely by Sarah Everitt (50th in 23:41) and Nicky Bromhall (64th in 24:23) taking time out from her London Marathon training to support the club when Sian Davis withdrew with a recurrence of a calf injury. Their team result will be added when known. The full women’s individual results can be found at:

The men failed to enter a single athlete for the M35 category and it was left to those of slightly more mature years to fly the flag as Phil Parry, Alec Wood, Mike Jacob and Dave Bedwell all competed. After an indifferent winter by his high standards Phil pulled out all the stops to finish tenth overall and third in his category (M45) in 27:47. Behind him Alec Wood moved through after a steady start to finish twelfth in the race and fourth M45 in 28:03. Mike Jacobs ran his usual gutsy race and battled all the way to the line to finish 34th in the race and 13th M45 in 29:11. Behind them Dave Bedwell was our sole M55 representative finishing 72nd in 31:40 – having been higher up early on. At the presentation the M45 team was declared runners-up behind Thames Hare & Hound but my maths has them scoring 56 to TH&H’s 59 on race positions or both teams scoring 24 on M45 and M50 runners only and winning on count-back. Let’s wait for the outcome of that one! Full men’s individual results are at:
