Lucy BRYAN was again the star of the show for Bristol & West Athletic Club as she won the Under-20 pole vault at the National age group Indoor Championships at the National Indoor Arena at Birmingham over the weekend. Whilst never challenging her recent PB of 4 metres 11 centimetres her 3 metre 80 clearance was enough to give her the gold.
Another club member in the medals was Leon REID who secured silver in the Under-20 200 metres with a season’s best of 21.93 in the final. Leon had earlier finished second in his semi in 21.94 having won heat 3 in 22.37 – so really consistent running through the rounds Leon.
Chris STONE and Elliott PRENDERGAST competed in the Under-20 60 metres. Chris was fourth in his heat in 7.23 and then ran 7.20 for sixth in the first semi-final. Elliott was fourth in a swift heat in 7.16 before running a PB of 7.13 for fifth in the second semi-final.
In the Under-17 Women’s 60 metres Yemma SONGU showed that being the bottom of the age group is a challenge rather than a hindrance. After running 8.10 for fourth in her heat she then ran a PB of 8.08 for sixth in her semi-final. A sub-8 clocking can’t be too far away.
In addition to the five club athletes there were also good performances from regular Whitehall visitors Emily WRIGHT and Adam WALL of Yate. Emily was second in her heat of the Under-15 Women’s 60 metres in 8.09 and fifth in her semi-final in 8.13. To round off a busy afternoon she also took bronze in the long jump with a leap of 5.25 – the same distance as the silver medalist and just short of her 5.30 PB. Adam was third in the Under-20 Men’s high jump with 1 metre 99 centimetres – just below his PB of 2.01 – showing that Joy Bray’s group are in good form.
