During a stop over in England that saw her make a flying visit to Bristol for her Ph.D. award ceremony Claire Hallissey found time to run the Wokingham Half-Marathon. Having been at altitude in Kenya and planning to stop over for another session at altitude in Boulder, Colorado before finally getting back to Washington – Claire is heavily into London Marathon preparation and was using Wokingham as a reality check rather than a full-on race. Her 73:30 clocking for runner-up in the Women’s race behind Liz Yelling will probably go down as a mission accomplished. Also in the field and preparing for London was Julia Belyavin – also looking to run a half at marathon pace and an 89:46 time for twenty-eighth in the women’s race and 202nd overall is also likely to be clasified as mission accomplished – although I understand that Julia hasn’t yet fully recovered from her fundraising run from Bristol to Reading – I expect many of us would never recover from such a feat.
