We have waited anxiously for Emily DIAMOND to run an individual 400 metres since her sub-52 second relay leg at the World Student Games in China last year. So after a winter of preparation Emily joined a small England Team in Bratislava, Slovakia for an International Meet enabling her to measure progress. The outcome was a massive win in a new Club Indoor Record of 55.14 to place her fourth in this year’s UK Rankings.
Our previous record holder was another ex-Bristol Grammar School pupil and Club International Member, Katharine EUSTACE with 56.66 set in 1997. Katharine of course is now known on the Winter Sports scene as the leading New Zealand Skeleton slider as she looks toward the next Winter Olympics.
From the report Emily wasn’t wholly pleased with her time but as we know it takes time to adjust to the indoor boards and when you consider this was her first individual run at the distance as well I am sure we all consider this as a great run. I am sure you will improve your time out of hand Emily and we all look to you making our Olympic Team for London later in the year. No pressure, good luck and please stay injury free!
