There was a good turn out from club athletes at the Avon Schools Cross-Country on Saturday 14 January 2012 at Kingswood School in Bath. Full results will appear on the club web-site when known but without exception there were great individual performances. From memory Hugh and Miranda Sadler both had clear wins in their age groups, Lewis Nightingale and Tor Kenny collected silver medals and Jo Taylor and Luke Grenfell-Shaw bronze medals. There were battling performances from Rose Evan-Baker (sixth), Corey Haynes (seventh) and Billy Cochrane (eighth). Maria Jones (seventh) produced a very strong finish and Ellie Evans (eighteenth) continued to gain valuable experience in her new sport. Jessica Monk and Billie Williams also finished seventh in their respective races. Tom Krause unfortunately pulled out with a twisted ankle – a victim of the frozen ground as winter caught up with us. Another athlete to suffer misfortune was Anton Mills who Ali Hurford tells me was spiked at the start. Apologies to anyone I haven’t mentioned – congratulations to those of you who will be selected for the Avon Team for the English Schools – from the finishing positions detailed above it looks as if most of the club athletes who took part should be selected.
