Gwent League Round-Up

Now that the third and final race of 2011 results from the Gwent League are on their web-site we can update on our earlier blog and also provide overall standings for club members with two races still to come in 2012. Those two races are at Penlan Leisure Centre at Brecon on Saturday 11 February 2012 and in Blaise Castle, Bristol on Saturday 3 March 2012.

At Swansea the under-13 boys were narrowly defeated in the team race by Wells City who scored 137 points, our team scored 136 points and were chased hard by Cardiff who scored 133 points. If ever there was a result that underlined the need for every member of the team to race their hardest – even when having an off day – that was it. The good performance meant that the team closed to with 13 points of Swansea (475 against 462) – and team manager and coach Alison Hurford will not be satisfied with anything less than an overall  team win at the end of the season. So come on under-13s we know you can do it under Ali’s guidance.

Individual results at Swansea were Hugh Sadler eighth in 9:39, Billy Cochrane ninth in 9:47, Tom Krause twelfth in 9:54, Anton Mills nineteenth in 10:18 and James Pyke thirty-sixth in 11:19. In the overall standings after three races Tom is sixth with 116 points and Billy is seventh with 114 points.

In the under-17 men’s race Zak Tobias was third in 16:31 for fifth overall with 56 points and Lewis Nightingale was twelfth in 19:10.

In the under-15 girls race Jess Monk was fifth in 17:56 and Jo Taylor was twelfth in 18:39. Jess’ run puts her fifth overall on 104 points.
