For the second successive Gwent League race it was Alison Hurford’s squad of under-13 boys who flew the flag for Bristol and West. With Hugh Sadler in eighth, Billy Cockrane in ninth, Tom Krause in twelfth, Anton Mills in nineteenth and James Pyke in thirty-sixth it was another great team performance – probably enough to have won the team race – but we have to wait for the official results.
Photos of each of the athletes in the under-13 boy’ team are now up on the club web-site at Photos – Juniors.
In other age groups Michael Johnson found the conditions far removed from his preferred surface on the road but ran well for sixth place in the last race of the day – the senior men’s. Behind him Dave Bedwell also found the under-foot conditions taxing. In the Senior Women’s race new comer Diana Kennedy ran well for fourth place, while behind her Emma Bowers (forty-ninth) and Sarah Everitt (fifty-fourth) found the going tough – both are members of Monday night’s Whitehall Recreational Running Group and have made enormous strides under the watchfull eye of Chris Elson who was there acting as Senior Team Manager.
Dave Taylor was there keeping an eye on Jessica Monk and Joanna Taylor. After Jo took an early position just behind the lead group it was Jessica who came through to finish as first club runner in the under-15 girls race.
In the combined under-17 and under-20 men’s race Zak Tobias gave a committed display to finish sixth – we will wait to see where that put him in the under-17s. Behind him Lewis Nightgale found the course tough going.
