Bristol Senior Men & Women: League Track & Field Fixtures in 2012

A Newsletter from Team Managers Chris Elson, Mike Strange & Cy Knibb.

2012 will be an important year for the Club’s senior teams with the women aiming to gain promotion to the UK Women’s Athletic League for 2013 and the men aiming to perform well enough in the British Athletics League Division 4 to gain promotion for a second year to Division 3.

The Midland League joint men’s and women’s team will remain an important part of our team structure, allowing us to develop greater strength in depth and give experience to our up-and-coming athletes across a wide age range. We are aiming to remain in Division 1 in 2013 but to do this we will need to turn out strength in depth – the club will be helped in doing so with new signings such as Hannah Williams (sprints), Bethan Wakefield (sprints), Elliott Prendergast (sprints), Megan Coe (sprints), Diana Kennedy (endurance and steeplechase), Rainer Groh (long jump), Dan Studley (middle distance/endurance). It is pleasing to see the addition of three new sprinters to the Ladies Team which has been an area where we have under-performed in recent seasons.

The key fixtures for 2012 are:-

Saturday 5 May                  Midland League 1                Cheltenham

Saturday 26 May                British League 1                  Derby

Sunday 27 May                  Midland League 2                Wolverhampton

Saturday 30 June                British League 2                  Bristol Kip Keino

Sunday 1 July                     Midland League 3                Bristol Kip Keino

Saturday 28 July                 British League 3                  Bournemouth

Saturday 4 August               Midlands League 4               Nottingham

Saturday 18 August             British League 4                  Windsor

Saturday 15 September       UKWAL Promotion               Abingdon

The BAL will take priority over the Midland League when there are two fixtures on the same weekend on May 26/27 and June 30/July 1. Some athletes may want to participate in both fixtures while others will choose which they want to do.

The women’s match to gain promotion is at Abingdon on Saturday 15 September 2012

The Avon and South West Leagues will also continue to give everyone a chance to compete in local fixtures, supplemented by open meetings and county and area championships.

There will be increased opportunity for all paid-up members to compete at the right level.

We need everyone’s continued support – athletes, coaches and officials – if we are to continue our success next year and achieve our aims for 2012.

Further team managers’ newsletters will be circulated in the New Year to keep everyone informed.
